HOW YOU WILL SPEND YOUR TIME:

The successful Investment Research Analyst will have a wide variety of investment-related responsibilities including in-depth private fund manager diligence, investment monitoring, pipeline management, quarterly reporting for both conventional investments, and impact and coordination with select investment managers. The position will also assist with the development of our proprietary capital market assumptions, run and analyze custom Monte Carlo simulations for client portfolios and contribute to the firm’s economic and market forecasts. The Investment Analyst position will assist with all aspects of the Investment Committee’s analysis needs as assigned.

Investment Manager Due Diligence:

  • Contribute to Caprock’s initial and ongoing manager due diligence process across asset classes with an emphasis on private fund managers in real estate, private equity, venture capital, and private debt – managers.
  • Review and analyze a diverse range of investment-related materials including financial statements, industry trends, cap tables, projections, third party reports, and proprietary models to evaluate investment opportunities;
  • Review investment legal documents to identify and clearly articulate important terms including fees, expenses, potential conflicts, risks, and liquidity provisions;
  • Draft client-facing and internal manager recommendations that clearly and succinctly communicate the risks and opportunities an investment offers with support and oversight from senior members of the investment team and Investment Committee;

Investment Pipeline Management:

  • Assist with due diligence required to underwrite new private investment opportunities across asset classes;
  • Perform industry reviews to develop investment themes and identify investment opportunities;
  • Support the team in developing and managing an investment pipeline for private investments across the target asset classes (private equity, venture capital, private debt, and real assets);
  • Use research tools such as Pitchbook, MorningStar, and FactSet to identify strong investment themes and fund managers;

Portfolio Monitoring:

  • Manage a pipeline and portfolio monitoring database through various tools utilized by the Caprock investment team;
  • Manage all aspects of the new manager onboarding process; to ensure that investments are quickly and efficiently available to Client Advisors;
  • Coordinate diligence and quarterly review meetings with investment managers;
  • Draft internal fund assessments on a quarterly basis for select Caprock managers and funds, and actively communicate manager and fund performance, including critical updates throughout the life of an investment fund;
  • Support the impact assessment for select impact investment funds;
  • Contribute to research and development of investment themes and capital market assumptions;
  • Contribute to the development and preparation of monthly and quarterly investment commentaries and forecasts for both internal and external audiences;
  • Assist in the production of client-facing materials including the monthly chartbook, quarterly commentary, investment memos, and other materials using systems and data from services such as Pitchbook, Factset, Morningstar, and other sources;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required – Business Administration or Finance preferred;
  • CFA or MBA preferred;
  • 3 – 5 years of experience conducting due diligence and making investments in private funds and companies.
  • Preference for applicants with work experience at a single or multi-family office or pension funds, insurance companies, funds of funds, or similar where the role included significant private fund diligence, especially private equity, venture capital or private debt,
  • Demonstrated experience in financial modeling and accounting;
  • Demonstrated curiosity regarding financial markets and traditional and alternate valuation techniques across multiple asset classes;
  • Familiarity with asset allocation modeling and Monte Carlo simulations;
  • Ability to confidently lead meetings with asset managers;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft Teams, and finance-related software;
  • Series 65 licensed (or willing to obtain).
