Stanford Business School was intimidating. As the youngest member of my class and coming from a public-school background in Idaho, I felt somewhat out of place at first. But it was encouraging to learn that people are people and that my classmates were not that different from me. Through hard work, focused curiosity and the encouragement of my family and friends I graduated with my MBA 1996.
As the Chief Investment Officer for Caprock, I bring the skills of hard work and curiosity to all of our investment diligence processes. It is truly a blessing to be able to work at a firm where I can combine both my gifts and my passions to help families achieve their goals.
Married with children, I have limited spare time, so I have made the conscious decision to focus my energies almost exclusively on my faith, family, and Caprock. But when I do have spare time I like to spend it reading and try to read at least one book per week. I love to read a wide variety of books including history, biographies, science fiction, business, faith, and self-help. Reading satisfies both my curiosity to learn as well as my introverted nature.
Background:
Prior to founding Caprock, Richard spent over a decade building a Silicon Valley profile that includes entrepreneur, advisor, and investor. Most notably, as an early member of eBay management, Richard played a key role in building one of the iconic early internet companies. Following his exit from eBay, Richard founded Xian Advisors, a boutique consultant firm which specialized in early-stage corporate advisory services and private wealth management.
Richard graduated from The University of Idaho with a degree in finance and received his MBA from Stanford. Richard has served as a Director of the University of Idaho Foundation and Chairman of the Investment Committee. He currently serves on the advisory board for two VC funds, including the Westly Group.
