I spent a good chunk of my 20s and early 30s traveling to different parts of the world on volunteer projects, ranging from serving Native American tribes in South Dakota to underprivileged youth in Mongolia. It was on these trips I started thinking about investing as a potential tool to uplift communities.
I moved out to Bay Area with pretty much one suitcase (and my fair share of student debt) to work as an unpaid intern at an impact fund. While living on my friend’s couch for six months was not fun, it was an incredibly rewarding experience and the best career decision I have made.
My typical cycle includes analyzing global markets, leading investment diligence, and collaborating with clients to create the change they want to see. I love it!
One of the most challenging aspects of my job is to balance my desire to see revival in underserved communities with the discipline to sort out investable opportunities from philanthropic opportunities.
One of my favorite books is “Overrated” by Eugene Cho.
